The complaint we hear most after a cheap GPS install is not “the map is inaccurate.” It is “the battery is dead and the car will not start in the morning.” A tracker stays connected to vehicle power twenty-four hours a day. If it was not designed with real sleep modes, it steals current quietly while the car sits in Damascus overnight — or over a weekend.

Why ordinary trackers drain the vehicle battery
The modem keeps searching for a network, the GPS module never enters deep sleep, and the unit still reports at a high rate while the car is parked. Cheap devices often have no genuine sleep profile at all. Sleep modes in Teltonika GPS devices

Internal backup battery is not vehicle drain
The internal battery in the FMB920 is a reserve when the main feed is cut — anti-theft and anti-tamper — not a substitute for low-power design. A cheap tracker often has neither effective sleep nor a reliable backup cell. If someone disconnects power, it dies. If nobody disconnects power, it still wears the car battery down.
